Click to learn how you can be a part of this amazing ministry
Mission Central Awarenes Sunday is April 7th this year
Mission Central first opened in 2002 as the mission outreach project of the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church. Mission Central’s mission is “Connecting God’s Resources with Human Need.” This is accomplished by following three areas of focus…Mission Outreach, Mission Education and Disaster Response. By partnering with over 180 different organizations, we provide resources to groups who are doing humanitarian work locally, across the country and around the world. Additionally, we stand ready to respond to all weather-related disasters or emergencies that occur.
Mission Central is one of six warehouses that provide the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), an organization that provides disaster relief and humanitarian aid to over 80 countries worldwide, with all of their needed resources used in disaster response efforts. Recently, we sent over 11,000 cleaning buckets and more than 45,000 hygiene kits to hurricane-affected areas in the United States, a value of around $1.5 million. Our relief efforts are not limited to UMCOR…over half of the aid that we provide stays in Pennsylvania.
We are not funded by the United Methodist Church or UMCOR. We continue to exist because of the generosity of churches, local businesses and most importantly, from individuals just like YOU. All of these groups, working together, enable us to open our doors each day so that we can continue to reach out to those in need. It costs over $1,500 daily to keep this warehouse open, and we thank you for making it happen for nearly two decades! To continue to support Mission Central, online donations have been made easy and simple.
Make a monthly donation by clicking here. Monthly donations provide us with regular income so that we are able to open the doors each day and continue to reach out to those in need. Monthly donations also allow easy budgeting for you and the ability to break your yearly donation into 12 equal gifts. Consider joining one of our club levels at $25, $50 or $100 each month and receive an invitation to our “Member Appreciation Days” held twice a year!
If you prefer to make a donation by check, they can be mailed to 5 Pleasant View Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
Mission Central Volunteers
Mission Central’s mission is carried out by the thousands of people who volunteer here each year. The staff works closely with the volunteers and local community to create customized volunteer experiences. We can accommodate anyone who wants to join us, and we welcome people of all backgrounds and beliefs. There are a wide variety of jobs available. We can accommodate groups of any size, including those who need community service hours, service projects for corporations and schools and more! For more information, check out our Volunteer page.
Mission Central’s HUBs
In November 2006, Mission Central realized that many people were travelling hundreds of miles to our warehouse in Mechanicsburg to volunteer and make donations. This led to the creation of satellite facilities or “HUBs” located throughout the Northeast. This network helps carry out the work of Mission Central in local communities. For more details on HUBs and to learn how to become a HUB, check out our HUB page.
It is very difficult to fully explain everything that Mission Central is and does. We recommend that you explore our website, follow us on social media, and sign up for our MissionLink newsletter. If you ever need anything, have any questions or would like to schedule a tour or meet with a staff member, please call us at 717-766-1533.
