A MESSAGE FROM OUR BISHOP - JEREMIAH PARK
Dear Friends in Christ,
Grace to you in the name of Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace, Healer of Our Brokenness and Hope of the World!
Sunday, March 14th, is UMCOR Sunday (formerly One Great Hour of Sharing). Whenever disaster strikes anywhere around the world, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is prepared to act. It is known for its presence as “arrives first and leaves last”. Ever since 1940, when UMCOR’s forerunner was established to meet the needs of those suffering overseas from the onset of World War II, our church has continued to respond to those in desperate need in over eighty countries. Through UMCOR, people who have experienced loss from any disaster are cared for, supported and provided life’s basic needs. From the floods in the mid-west and the epic floods in Mozambique to whatever the next major crisis is, we are there as the arms and legs of God. Indeed, UMCOR represents our church in mission at its best all over the world.
Throughout my many years in the Susquehanna Conference, I have been moved and humbled by the generosity of God’s people. Your past generosity to UMCOR is even now helping those within our own Conference. UMCOR grants helped our brothers and sisters in Susquehanna County as they worked to recover from the floods that devastated parts of that area. For those and the countless other lives that will be touched in a life giving and restoring way, I invite you to unite with your sisters and brothers to consider a contribution to UMCOR on Sunday 3/14
Whenever we give financially, we recognize Jesus in those who are reeling from disaster. Please give as you are able and let the people in dire need know that they are being remembered and uplifted in gifts and prayers. May your Lenten journey be blessed as you give with a sacrificial heart to the ministry of the church of Jesus Christ.
With You in Christ’s Ministry,
Jeremiah J. Park
